Derbyville is the first brick and mortar store in Colorado specializing in all things Roller Derby. The store is owned by Pretty But Ruthless, skater for Rocky Mountain Rollergirls.
The conception began in November 2010 just after Rocky Mountain Rollergirls won the national championships. Colorado, now home to the number one team in the nation and with over ten leagues throughout the state needed a derby shop of its own. Derbyville!
Previously there was no store in Colorado to buy Rollerderby gear. When I started my derby career I went online to get all my gear and was overwhelmed at the cost of everything. I had never played a sport that required spending $300 to $400 on gear. I had never worn a mouth guard or pads. It was all very intimidating to me and I had no idea what to get. Most women feel the same way when they start derby. They end up getting everything online, have problems with sizing, deal with poor selection, and bad advice. The cheapest “fresh meat” package is not always the best but as a newbie you don’t know that. I wanted to open a store where women could come in feel comfortable and get help trying on pads, get sized for skates properly, and ask questions without judgment.
There are other places to buy gear online but Derbyville can offer more first hand knowledge of the equipment and fashion of Derby. We want every skater to get the right sized skates and the best equipment for their needs so they will be safe and can perform at their best on the track.
